Ann graduated from Central College (BA 1991) and Iowa State University (MArch 2000). She completed her internship at Herbert Lewis Kruse Blunck Architecture, where she worked on a number of renovation projects at historically significant sites, including Terrace Hill (Des Moines), the Des Moines Art Center, Cornell College (Mt. Vernon), and Iowa State University (Ames), and where she began writing construction specifications. In 2004 she joined the faculty in architecture at Iowa State University; at ISU, she taught design studios, required professional practice courses, lectures in design and culture, and an award-winning seminar on writing and architecture. During that time she also served as a specifications consultant for substance on a number of projects, including the Principal Riverwalk Pavilion, Des Moines Public Library Renovations, and GSA Projects. From 2007-2011 she directed the college-wide beginning design program for undergraduate students and presented widely on issues of design pedagogy and case studies in design and culture. She is a Certified Construction Specifier (CCS), one of a dozen professionals in the state to earn CSI’s advanced certification for specification writing, and served as Central Iowa CSI’s Certification Chair 2012-17. Ann was named an Associate with substance in 2015. With three colleagues, Ann co-founded the non-profit organization Iowa Women in Architecture (iaWia) and served as its first chair. Her contributions to the profession were recognized with a National 2015 AIA Young Architects Award.
